George C. Scott and Stanley Kubrick playing chess on the set of Dr. Strangelove. Scott had an extremely volatile personality (he was renowned for bar brawls and heavy drinking) and Kubrick played chess with him between takes in order to ”tame him”. James Earl Jones said it was a way for Kubrick to prove himself to Scott, who fancied himself as a good chess player. Scott lost the first game to Kubrick.
